3 Steps to Solving the Mystery of the Clogged Beko Dishwasher

by Ronald Elias

One minute you’re putting dishes in your dishwasher with not a care in the world – the next minute you notice the water from the previous cycle didn’t drain and is now pooling at the bottom of your dishwasher. Before you scream to the heavens, “HOW DID THINGS GO SO WRONG?” – just remember,  a little bit of water at the bottom of your dishwasher is normal, but when it is at a level that is well above the drain, then you need to start checking why it’s clogged and how to unclog it.

A few thoughts may be running around in your head such as, “How did I miss that?” or “Where do I even start?” And we’re happy to calm your fears and give you a hand during this situation. On the off chance that your dishwasher is clogging because it’s ready to retire, visit our store to find a Beko dishwasher that will change your life forever. But, if you currently have a Beko dishwasher that happened to get clogged - as dishwashers sometimes do - follow these steps to find where the clog is coming from.

Step One: Run the Garbage Disposal

Let’s start with the easiest task first. Usually, dishwashers drain into the garbage disposal, but sometimes if there is too much food left in your sink drain, your dishwasher will have difficulty draining – thus getting clogged. Because of this, you’ll want to run your faucet and turn the disposal on at the same time. When it sounds like it’s all cleared out, check your dishwasher to see if it drains. If it doesn’t, move on to step two.

Step Two: Check the Filters

Oftentimes, the number one culprit for a clogged dishwasher is the filter getting blocked with food pieces and other debris from previous cleaning cycles. It’s important to clean out your dishwasher from time to time, so these experiences don’t happen, but if something does get stuck in your dishwasher filter, luckily it’s an easy fix.

Open your dishwasher and pull the bottom rack all the way out. Your filter will be on the floor of your dishwasher where you can easily wipe away any gunk that may be covering it. Be extra sure your filter isn’t the problem by removing it from your dishwasher, scrubbing it with a sponge, and letting the kitchen faucet water run through it. Place it back in the dishwasher and you’ll soon find out if that solved the issue or if you’ll need to move on to step three.

Step Three: Check the Drain Hose

This step seems a little more complicated but follow our instructions and you’ll be just fine. First, you’ll want to unplug your dishwasher. Safety first! You’ll do this because when your dishwasher drain hose is in the wrong position, it can affect the way your water is draining, or how it isn’t draining, rather. So, you’ll need to pull the whole dishwasher out so you can view the back of it and locate the drain hose. Very rarely, food and other debris will make it through your dishwasher’s filter and get stuck inside the drain hose.

Place a pan or wash cloth underneath the hose to catch any water that may leak out and detach it from the dishwasher. Wiggle the hose to make sure there really isn’t anything in there. But if step one or two didn’t work, then there is a big chance this step will.
